Sure the beef between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans has provided some of the most entertaining insults in MMA history, but they ain’t got nothin’ on the trash Team Fedor Emelianenko is flinging towards alleged steroid abuser Alistair Overeem.
Evgeni Kogan, M-1 Global’s Director of Operations, told Sherdog.com that Overeem was “rumormongering” in hopes of scoring a fight with MMA’s most elusive heavyweight. Furthermore, Kogan states Ubereem’s accusations that they have been ducking him were “categorically untrue.”
“If [Overeem] can point to where Fedor turned down a proposed fight, we’d like to hear it,” Kogan matter-of-factly stated.
Emelianenko’s immediate future has him facing Fabricio Werdum at Strikeforce’s June 26th event inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. If Fedor is able to extend his winning streak to an astonishing 28, the Russians will be more than willing to hit the negotiating table to arrange the most anticipated heavyweight scrap in MMA history.
“His camp is definitely not looking past Werdum,” said Kogan. “They consider him a dangerous opponent. That being said, we have nothing against Overeem as an opponent and we’re completely open to discussing that fight after June 26, if Fedor does well.”
