Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell will be taking on Former Top Ranked Light Heavyweight in the world Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in either May or June of 2008. The UFC is aiming for the fight to take place in London, England, which would be in June, where the UFC hopes to have finalized a broadcast network television deal by that time.
Liddell is coming off of a victory in one of the most anticipated fights in MMA history, where he defeated former Pride Champion and Shogun training partner Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79.
Shogun has been recovering from knee surgery after losing his UFC debut to Forrest Griffin at UFC 79 last October. The best 205-lb. fighter to never to have won a title looks to put his career back on track after the stunning upset.
This will be a huge fight for both fighters as a win for Liddell could very will find him in a title shot, facing the winner of current UFC Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Forrest Griffin, scheduled to take place at the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter this season, where both fighters will be coaching against each other.
