If yesterday’s weigh-ins were any indication of who the fans are backing, Rashad Evans won’t only be fighting Quinton “Rampage” Jackson tonight at UFC 114, but the thousands of fanatics that will be screaming for B.A Baracus as well.
After tipping the scales, Evans earned a large share of boos, while Jackson received plenty of love from the partisan crowd. Keep in mind, Rampage also stripped down to a pair of Superman comic book undies when he weighed-in, so that certainly didn’t hurt his popularity.
From the outside looking in, it appeared as though Evans wasn’t affected by the crowd too much – if at all.
On the other hand, having the fan support might be just what the doctor ordered for Jackson, who will also be battling a severe case of cage rust. The last time fans saw Jackson inside the Octagon was after he beat Evans’ training partner Keith Jardine at UFC 96 back in March 2009.
Tonight’s main event inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will determine the immediate future of the UFC’s talented 205-pound division, one that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua currently rules.
A win for Jackson could mean a shot at redemption against Rua, who thoroughly trounced him back in 2005. Evans will look to prove to Jackson that he belongs in the upper echelon of light heavyweights.
