According to a report by Carson’s Corner, Nick Diaz will get his long awaited rematch against his bitter rival Joe Riggs at “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” on August 15th.
Although no official announcement has been made by Strikeforce or either of the two fighters, the website is claiming that both MMA vets have agreed to the scrap, which will only help solidify an already star-studded cast.
Riggs took a unanimous decision over Diaz at UFC 57 many moons ago. Since that L, Diaz has gone on to win nine of his last 11 contests, not including his “win” over Takanori Gomi, who was the world’s best lightweight at the time.
Diaz subbed Gomi with a nasty gogoplata, propelling Gomi into his current downward spiral. Days after the upset, Diaz tested positive for being a “Pothead Focker” and the bout was overturned to a No Contest.
Riggs, on the other hand, has gone a mundane 6-4 since his original battle with the Cesar Gracie-trained fighter back in February of 2006. He is riding a two-fight winning streak, with his most recent coming by way of unanimous decision over the controversial Phil Baroni at “Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields” earlier this month.
“Carano vs. Cyborg” will be jumping off inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Here is the list of fighters rumored to be competing in the Showtime broadcast:
Erin Toughill vs. TBD
Roger Gracie vs. TBD
Alistair Overeem (Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion) vs. TBD
Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs
Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson (Strikeforce Lightweight Champion)
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs. Gina Carano (Open Strikeforce Womens Title)
