After notching a series-low 1.2 million viewers for their UFC 111 broadcast in April, this weekend’s “UFC 114 Prelims” show rallied nicely, as it captured 1.6 million viewers.

MMAjunkie.com confirmed the 33 percent increase today with an industry insider. If the report holds true, the latest freebie is the second-highest ranked “UFC Prelims” episode in the history of the series – falling slightly behind the 1.7 million mark February’s UFC 109 show earned.

Overall, the broadcast drew a 1.1 household rating with a 1.6 score among Men 18-34 and a 1.55 rating for Men 18-49.

Unfortunately for the UFC, the broadcast ranked second among basic cable networks in the two pivotal Male demographics. TNT’s coverage of the NBA Western Conference Finals edged out Spike TV for the top slot.

While MMA was occupied with hosting their extravaganza, Kobe Bryant was busy doing this to earn the Los Angeles Lakers their third straight Finals appearance:

The hour-long lead-in show featured Dong Hyun Kim’s upset win over Amir Sadollah, as well as Efrain Escudero’s unanimous decision victory over Dan Lauzon.

UFC 114 took place inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
