While most sports fans thought the day’s compelling question was whether the Los Angeles Lakers would cover the 5.5-point spread in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, it appears @The_Chosyn_One vs. @JamieYager is Thursday’s pressing topic.

Jamie Yager eliminated himself from the middleweight tournament in last night’s episode of “The Ultimate Fighter 11” when he failed to answer the decisive 3rdRound bell.

“You can teach someone how to fight but you can’t teach someone how to have heart,” said Tito Ortiz, Yager’s former TUF 11 coach. “Yager quit. Nothing more than that. He quit. He was fine. He said the back of my head, duh duh duh.

“No. He (expletive) quit.”

Immediately after the Spike TV broadcast, Yager – or a person who 500+ followers thought was Yager – took to his Twitter and unleashed a barrage of derogatory statements directed towards “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy.”

Immediately after they caught wind of the fake Tweets, Yager’s management firm, Iridium Sports Agency, issued the following statement in his defense:

“We’re not sure who @The_Chosyn_One is. As with so many guys who get on TUF, they get a surge of recognition and it sometimes spins out of control. People (fans and/or haters) sometimes set up fake accounts, fighters may have friends handle their accounts and with social media exploding the last several years, it’s very hard to control. When this happens, confusion is inevitable and unfortunately, sometimes that confusion has detrimental effects.

Jamie’s #1 focus is on training rather than on being the focus of media attention; and perhaps for that reason, Jamie was more susceptible to this kind misunderstanding. We’re still trying to cut through the confusion ourselves, but @The_Chosyn_One is NOT Jamie Yager.

We have already begun to take steps with Twitter to see what can be done to address the impersonator. If you want to follow Jamie on Twitter, he is @JamieYager. I hope this helps clarify things for now.”
