It has been nearly two weeks since Michael Jackson’s sudden death turned the world upside down. Shocking revelations about the entertainer have emerged with each passing day, but on the heels of yesterday’s emotional “Michael Jackson Memorial,” it has come to light that MJ was a big UFC fan.
“He was a fan and he watched the UFC pay-per-views and he was into it,” said Lorenzo Fertitta, chairman and CEO of the UFC.
That being said, who was at UFC 84 on May 24, 2008?
If you were, then maybe you saw a person in a wheelchair that had a black cloth over his face and sunglasses on.
Wanna guess who that was!?
That’s right, it was none other than the “King of Pop” himself, rolling around floor-level inside the the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here’s the kicker. After hearing this story, yours truly distinctly remembers seeing a person in a wheelchair that spring evening.
After unsuccessfully trying to get an interview with UFC lightweight Roger Huerta (only because the groupie train decided to roll through and cling to him like spandex), I rushed back to my chair because the next bout was about to start.
As I took the VIP entrance back, I noticed that “someone” in a wheelchair was holding up the line.
Not only do I remember thinking to myself, ‘Could you PLEASE hurry up, I’m gonna miss the next fight,’ but I also recall thinking, ‘That’s so cool that this dude in a wheelchair got such great seats!’
I didn’t have a “Michael Jackson moment” before, but I guess I do now.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson.
