Josh Barnett returning to Japan's World Victory Road on March 5th against Hidehiko Yoshida

Josh Barnett’s name has been really active over the last few months, particularly being linked to Fedor Emelianenko’s name. Barnett is one of the top Heavyweight fighters in the world but has been inactive since losing to Mirko Cro Cop in the PRIDE Grand Prix Finals. Now according to Barnett’s MySpace blog, “The moment has finally arrived! I am finally getting back in the ring after being unable to fight for over one year. I will be stepping into the main event of World Victory Road’s premier event: Sengoku March 5th at Yoyogi Stadium. My opponent -none other than Judo Olympic Gold Medalist and former PRIDE fighter Hidehiko Yoshida.”

Even though Barnett has signed on to fight in World Victory Road, it doesn’t eliminate him from facing Emelianenko down the road as it would make sense to give him a couple of tune-up fights. Emelianenko still has the matter of Randy Couture as well so for those who though that the list of fighters that Emelianenko could face was paper thin, you try lining up Randy Couture and then Josh Barnett.

Hidehiko Yoshida will most certainly be out-sized in this fight as he used to fight at Light Heavyweight in PRIDE against the likes of Wanderlei Silva and current UFC Light Heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson. It’ll be interesting to hear who else is slated for the March 5th card as we already know that Takanori Gomi is also on it.
