When it was announced earlier this week that former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber would drop down to the 135-pound division, fans were concerned he would rain on his bantamweight buddy’s parade. Not true states “The California Kid,” however he would eventually love the opportunity to slap reigning king Dominick Cruz around again.
“I’m gonna do some big fights here and see how I do at 135, but I’ve got to be mindful of my teammates,” Faber said in a video blog released on his official website. “I’m not going to fight Joseph Benavidez. I really believe he’s gonna be the world champion after this next fight, but there are some big fights for me at 35 and we’ll see what happens.”
The day after Faber’s August 18th scrap with Takeya Mizugak hit the rumor mill, Carmichael Dave reported Cruz would be making his first title defense against Benavidez in the card’s featured attraction.
