WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz announced earlier this week that he would be making his first title defense against a familiar foe in Joseph Benavidez.
Cruz captured the 135-pound title this past March when he dethroned Brian Bowles. Bowles suffered a broken right punching hand during the 2ndRound of their WEC 47 scrap and told doctors he wouldn’t be able to answer the 3rdRound bell.
Although Cruz looked sharp against the former champ, his lopsided unanimous decision victory over Benavidez to earn the title shot was much more impressive, if not surprising.
