As expected, World Extreme Cagefighting has officially announced WEC 50 for August 18th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Newly crowned champ Dominick Cruz will defend his 135-pound crown against Joseph Benavidez in the card’s featured attraction.

Former featherweight champion Urijah Faber will also be in action, as he’ll be making his WEC bantamweight debut against Takeya Mizugaki.

WEC 50 is setup to be a big night for the California-based Team Alpha Male, as Faber and Benavidez will look to shutout the 135-pound division. Although, Cruz and Mizugaki will certainly have something to say about that.

Cruz defeated Benavidez at WEC 42 to earn a title shot against then champ Brian Bowles at WEC 47. The dynamic Cruz took full advantage of his opportunity by stopping Bowles by TKO to earn the belt.

Benavidez now has the chance to not only avenge the only loss of his professional career, but also capture his first major title.

Coincidentally, Cruz’ lone blemish came against Faber at WEC 26 over three years ago.

Tickets for “WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez” go on sale this Thursday at 10AM PT.
