Strikeforce heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko and UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture will grace the cover of “EA Sports MMA.” The gaming giant made the announcement Monday during a press conference at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, California.
The highly anticipated game hits stores October 19th.
“EA Sports MMA,” which was designed to go head-on with THQ’s popular “UFC Undisputed” franchise, will be available on the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 consoles.
As expected, Strikeforce and Dream fighters are scattered throughout the talented list of athletes available for button-mashing competitions.
Other fighters confirmed to join Randy and Fedor are Shinya Aoki, Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, Lyle Beerbohm, Joachim Hansen, Dan Henderson, Roger Gracie, Jay Hieron, Tim Kennedy, Bobby Lashley, Robbie Lawler, Cung Le, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, Matt Lindland, Vladimir Matyushenko, Gilbert Melendez, Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Gegard Mousasi, Alistair Overeem, Kevin Randleman, Vitor Ribiero, Luke Rockhold, Brett Rogers, Murilo “Ninja” Rua, Frank Shamrock, Jake Shields, Scott Smith, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Nick Thompson, Josh Thomson, Frank Trigg, Fabricio Werdum, Tyron Woodley and Hidehiko Yoshida.
EA Sports has a knack of creating industry-leading video games, such as “Madden NFL” and “Tiger Woods PGA Tour,” and are hoping this unit can legitimately rival “UFC Undisputed 2010.”
Speaking of which …
The news comes as a double-whammy for THQ, as it was reported Monday that “UFC Undisputed 2010” is failing to live up to expectations in a major way. The dip was significant enough for the company to reconfigure their fiscal year numbers.
