Now that “The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale” and “WEC 49” are officially in the books, fans can look forward to the highly anticipated return of Fedor Emelianenko. The Russian meets Fabricio Werdum this weekend inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
Fedor and Werdum were originally expected to meet April 17th at “Strikeforce: Nashville” on CBS, then again on June 16th in Los Angeles, however contract talks stalled between M-1 Global and Strikeforce – leaving the pair sitting idly for months.
Emelianenko owns a ridiculous 31-1 professional record and is prefect through his last 27 contests. In his Strikeforce debut this past November, the former Pride heavyweight champion posted a vicious 2ndRound knockout of then-undefeated Brett Rogers.
Werdum, who was released by the UFC last year after posting a mundane 2-2 Octagon record, boasts a respectable 13-4-1 overall mark and is perfect in his two scraps for Strikeforce. He was last seen taking a hard-fought unanimous decision over Antonio “Big Foot” Silva on the same “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” show.
The Gambling Gods have ruled Fedor will be a 10-to-1 favorite when he enters the cage this Saturday.
Here are the fighters slated for the Showtime broadcast:
Josh Thomson vs. Pat Healy
Jan Finney vs. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (Strikeforce Women’s Champion)
Cung Le vs. Scott Smith
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum
