The UFC announced today that the finals for “The Ultimate Fighter 11” between Court McGee (Team Liddell) and Kris McCray (Team Ortiz/Franklin) will headline Saturday night’s “TUF 11 Finale” fight card.
A light heavyweight bout between Keith Jardine and Matt Hamill was originally slated to headline the Spike TV broadcast, but the UFC contends that the McGee vs. McCray scrap was always supposed to be the main event.
Both of this season’s finalists have something in common, as each lost and needed some help in order to get back into the middleweight tournament.
McGee controversially came up short against Tito Ortiz’ top pick Nick Ring, but got a second chance after teammate Rich Attonito was injured. He beat James Hammortree and Brad Tavares to earn a spot in the finals.
McCray ran out of gas against Josh Bryant, but was brought back in as a “wild card” along with Kyacey Uscola – who he originally beat to get back onto the show.
Jardine, a TUF alumnus himself, said during Wednesday’s conference call that he wasn’t even aware that his bout with Hamill was supposed to be the featured attraction.
“I don’t know much about that,” Jardine stated. “It’s just words to me.”
