The co-main event at “The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale” looked like a mismatch during the 1stRound as Keith Jardine was picking apart Matt “The Hammer” Hamill. However, Hamill was able to bounce back and earn a majority decision.
The Greg Jackson trained Jardine used a combination of solid leg kicks and quick strike punches early on to keep Hamill guessing.
It was looking so bad in fact that in between rounds, Hamill’s corner had suggested that he take the fight to the ground since he was struggling so much.
Unfortunately, Jardine knew the takedowns were coming, so Hamill instead went to plan B, dirty boxing.
The wrestler used uppercuts and short punches to bloody up Jardine and wear him out. To compound the mounting problems, “The Dean of Mean” also had a point taken away for an illegal thumb to Hamill’s eye in the 2ndRound.
By the time the 3rdRound came along, Jardine was clearly worn out, but he tried his best to keep the bout competitive.
Interestingly enough, Hamill told the media following the bout that he actually had a staph infection on his back and would be taking antibiotics today to get it taken care of.
