UFC light heavyweight Matt “The Hammer” Hamill bounced back from an injured shoulder that he suffered in his disqualification win over Jon Jones by beating Keith Jardine via majority decision at last night’s “The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale.”
What makes the win more impressive was the fashion in which he accomplished it. He mentioned during the post-fight press conference that the strange looking mark on his lower back was indeed a staph infection.
Hamill later went on to confirmed that he had broken his hand sometime during the 1stRound, but continued to throw punches anyways.
On top of that, he clearly got poked in the eye during the 2ndRound which blurred his vision (it didn’t hurt that Jardine had a point taken away though).
Even with all those things going against him, Hamill still found a way to beat a very tough opponent.
“I fought all my heart out. Then he poked me in the eye, and I thought I could be blind and deaf. It was too many handicaps, but I’m not giving up. I go all out,” Hamill told the media.
As you all probably know by now, Hamill is always at a distinct disadvantage because he is deaf.
“I knew the first round that I wasn’t doing really good. Then after he poked me in the eye, it was too much. I said, ‘Forget it. I want to go all out,'” Hamill stated.
One thing’s for sure, you can never question his determination and will to win.
