Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos did what most expected Saturday night inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA when she utterly destroyed Jan Finney at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum.”
Although Finney was able to land ONE solid shot in the opening ticks of each round to ignite the lopsided exchanges, it was a miracle that she was able to (and don’t ask me why she opted to) extend the mauling into the 2ndround.
The referee finally put an end to Finney’s misery when he pulled Cyborg off of her after the Brazilian landed a vicious knee to Finney’s abdomen that dropped her at 2:56.
Finney showed a lot of heart continuing when it appeared she had nothing left to offer, so props to her. However, Cyborg was simply too much.
The win was Cyborg’s second consecutive Strikeforce women’s middleweight title defense and it pushed her record to a nobody-is-even-close 10-1. The performance and resume was so impressive that it forced UFC veteran Patrick Cote to pay Cyborg the ultimate compliment (we’ll take it that way whether he meant it to be or not) to the planet’s best female fighter.
“Wow Cyborg can beat a man for sure !!!,” Cote Tweeted.
Unfortunately, Cyborg didn’t impress everybody, as she encountered a few boos from the boisterous crowd. Perhaps they felt the fight should have been stopped earlier, or San Jose opted to take on the “nobody likes a bully” mentality.
Let’s hope it’s the prior, because if it’s the latter somebody should stop hating and try doing something about it. But don’t try come lookin’ for me.
