As expected, former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will look to bounce back from his loss to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal when he meets Jake O’Brien at Dream.15.
Sources close to the situation confirmed today with MMAJunkie.com that the Armenian would be participating in the four-man Light Heavyweight Grand Prix against the MMA veteran.
The July 10th event is scheduled to take place inside the Saitama Super Arena in Japan and is expected to air live on HDNet in North America.
King Mo abruptly stopped Mousasi’s 15-fight winning streak when they met at “Strikeforce: Nashville” in April. Mousasi was a significant favorite to retain his strap, however King Mo out-wrestled him to easily take home the unanimous decision win.
Since being released by the UFC following his submission loss to Jon Jones at UFC 100 last July, O’Brien has rattled-off two consecutive wins. O’Brien was last seen posting a unanimous decision victory over Toni Valtonen at “Fight Festival 27” in Finland.
The winner of the O’Brien vs. Mousasi scrap advances to face the winner of the Melvin Manhoef and Tatsuya Mizuno bout that will take place that same evening. Dream officials have confirmed the victor of the tourney will be anointed the company’s first light heavyweight title holder.
Here are the contestants rumored/slated for the event:
