A report has surfaced regarding a possible light heavyweight clash between former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for a yet-to-be announced event in September.
Brazilian website TATAME.com spoke to Nogueira’s boxing coach Luis Carlos Dórea who claimed Rogerio would be returning to the Octagon in September at UFC 119, possibly against Jackson.
“It’s set that he’ll be back in September, and rumors point that his opponent might be Quinton Jackson. It’d be a great fight for Rogerio. He’s a former UFC champion and a victory over him will move us pretty close to the title,” Dórea stated.
Nogueira last fought at UFC 114 where he escaped with a somewhat controversial split decision against late replacement Jason Brilz. Forrest Griffin was scheduled to face Little Nog that night, but was forced to bow out due to injury.
A win for the twin brother of former Pride and UFC heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira could put him in line for a potential title shot against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, now that his camp-mate Lyoto Machida is no longer sporting the crown.
Jackson suffered a disappointing loss to bitter rival Rashad Evans that same UFC 114 evening. He was thoroughly out-wrestled en route to a unanimous decision loss.
“The UFC only has top athletes and Quinton Jackson is really dangerous,” Dórea continued. “It’d be a great fight, but the UFC didn’t confirmed anything yet.”
UFC 119 has been rumored for Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Here are the bouts that have hit the rumor mill for the event:
Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens
Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
