Following Brock Lesnar’s dominating win over Frank Mir at UFC 100, UFC president Dana White told the media that he is planning to set-up a heavyweight superfight between WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko and undisputed UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
“Eventually, Fedor’s going to be here. I want Fedor. I want him to come to the UFC ,” White said following UFC 100.
White has tried numerous times to bring Emelianenko to the Octagon, but discussions have always broken down after both parties laid out their demands.
“We’ll end up getting that deal done. And then we’ll do Brock vs. Fedor, and it’ll be a huge fight,” White proclaimed.
It’ll be interesting to see if White and the UFC can actually get the job done and get Fedor signed this time. They are going to have to wait until at least August 1st as Emelianenko is currently scheduled to take on Josh Barnett at “Affliction: Trilogy” inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
When asked about a possible time-table for Fedor’s signing, White was unsure but did say, “He’s obviously contractually obligated to fight [for Affliction] and then once that’s over we’ll figure it out.”
If you thought UFC 100 was big, wait until a UFC main event featuring Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko. However, Barnett should not be under estimated as he poses a serious threat to those grand plans.
