Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that UFC Light Heavyweight Stephan Bonnar has been forced to pull out of his upcoming bout with Matt Hamill due to some torn ligaments in his left knee. According to the report, Bonnar had been training in Las Vegas on his Jiu-Jitsu and he heard a “pop” and at that point Bonnar knew something was wrong. When he got it checked out initially it was said to be a partial tear, but an MRI taken later had revealed that it was a complete tear.
Bonnar will be having surgery within the coming days in Los Angeles and the recovery time will be somewhere in the neighborhood of six months.
This leaves the UFC scrambling for another opponent for the returning Matt Hamill who is coming off of a highly controversial loss at UFC 75 against Michael Bisping. Hamill also had surgery on his knee after the Bisping fight and is finally ready to get back into the cage.
