While most MMA fans are still talking about last Saturday’s UFC 116 extravaganza, Strikeforce is quietly putting together a blockbuster fight card for August 21st in Texas.

Despite early grumblings of a potential 185-pound grand prix to determine their next champion, the San Jose, California based promotion has announced five-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will look to shoot down Tim Kennedy for the vacant middleweight crown at “Strikeforce: Houston.”

Kennedy, a United States Army Special Forces sniper, has rattled off four consecutive victories. The 30-year-old submitted Trevor Prangley in the 1stRound with a vicious rear-naked choke at “Strikeforce: Los Angeles” on June 16th at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown L.A.

The following day, the Lakers captured their 16th NBA championship across the street at Staples Center.

Jacare owns an impressive 12-2 mixed martial arts record and is currently enjoying a two-fight winning streak. The grappling ace has ended 10 of his victories via submission, so it’s clear where this BJJ black belt would prefer for the scrap to go.

A light heavyweight title bout between newly minted champ Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante will headline the Showtime broadcast.

Here are the fighters expected to compete inside the Toyota Center in Houston:

Bobby Lashley vs. TBD
Jorge Gurgel vs. K.J. Noons
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Tim Kennedy (Vacant Strikeforce Middleweight Championship Bout)
Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal (Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship)
