Former WWE star Bobby Lashley has done something that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar couldn’t do – keep an unblemished record as a professional mixed martial artist.
While Lesnar has faced the who’s who of MMA, Lashley has slowly been making his way onto the heavyweight radar. He’s been putting in work at the American Top Team gym in Florida and is chomping at the bit to unleash his refined game.
“I think I’ve progressed well. The Bobby Lashley who fought my first fight is completely different from Bobby Lashley now,” said Lashley during this week’s press conference. “I’m anxious to get back out there. I had a little setback and when I finally got cleared, I called [Scott] Coker and begged him to be on this card.”
Lashley got his wish as Strikeforce’s CEO added him to the “Strikeforce: Houston” show, although an opponent has yet to be named.
As confident as he may feel about his improved skills, the former wrestler isn’t sure how he stacks up against the division’s best. However, he can’t wait for the opportunity to measure up.
“As far as comparing myself to the other heavyweights, we’ll see real soon. I’ll have opportunities to fight those guys in the next year,” Lashley stated.
“Strikeforce: Houston” is scheduled to take place on August 21st from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
