With just over two weeks before the curtain is drawn on “UFC on Versus: Jones vs. Matyushenko,” the organization has released the complete lineup for the August 1st show.
The event takes place inside the San Diego Sports Arena in California and will be headlined by a light heavyweight clash between up-and-coming superstar Jon Jones and journeyman Vladimir Matyushenko. In addition, Mark Munoz looks to continue his climb up the 185-pound ranks when he meets Japanese sensation Yushin Okami in a pivotal middleweight affair in the evening’s co-main event.
As expected, “Bones” is a significant favorite (-600) to bump his record to a dominant 11-1. However, Matyushenko is one of the world’s best unknown light heavyweights and intends to give the youngster a run for his money.
Speaking of upsets, Okami is more than a 2-to-1 favorite against “The Filipino Wrecking Machine.” While Okami is one of the most talented Japanese fighters to ever grace an Octagon canvas, his conservative style may not fare too well with Munoz’s relentless attack.
The event marks the UFC’s second Versus broadcast. Jones and Matyushenko were each victorious in the organization’s debut on the edgy network this past March.
