With UFC 120 already booked for October 16th, UFC UK President Marshall Zelaznik is hopeful that he can host one more event across the pond before the end of the year, as he’s aggressively positioning himself for a big 2011.
“We’re hoping to hold one more European event [in addition to UFC 120] before the end of the year,” Zelaznik told ESPN.co.uk.
The UK has suddenly become an up-and-coming hotbed for MMA following the success of Michael Bisping on “The Ultimate Fighter.” Bisping was the light heavyweight winner on Season 3 and has since opened doors for the likes of Ross Pearson (TUF 9 winner) and Dan Hardy.
Now that the UFC is regularly holding events in the UK, it’s helped jumpstart the promotion’s move towards global expansion with events like UFC 99 in Germany, UFC 110 in Australia and UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.
Zelaznik is targeting anywhere from “four to six” UFC shows in the UK next year, most of which will be of the UFC Fight Night variety.
“My hope is that it will provide four to six guaranteed UFC events in the UK next year. We’re hoping to hold one more European event [in addition to UFC 120] before the end of the year, and then we’ll get these extra nights planned for next year,” Zelaznik stated.
Liverpool, Scotland, Newcastle, Birmingham are all possible Octagon destinations.
