Less than 24-hours after it was formally announced UFC 120 would take place inside the O2 Arena in London, England, the world’s largest MMA organization has released the officially poster for the October 16th event.
A critical middleweight scrap between Michael Bisping and Yoshihiro Akiyama will headline the Octagon’s highly anticipated return to the UK.
Akiyama was submitted by Chris Leben in his last outing at UFC 116. Although he entered the UFC with much hoopla in 2009, Sexyama’s upset loss to “The Crippler” puts him at 1-1 inside the Octagon. Back-to-back losses could have the judo specialist’s head on the chopping block.
After starting his career with a perfect 14-0 record, Bisping has gone a mundane 2-2 over his last four contests. The Brit was last seen posting a unanimous decision victory over Dan Miller at UFC 114, bumping his overall mark to 19-3.
While this card has received quite a bit of backlash, the rumor mill has been buzzing that the UFC and Spike TV may offer this show for free via same-day tape delay. Given the fact there is no writing on the promotional pictorial is a surefire indicator that discussions for a freebie card are at least being made.
Despite featuring some solid up-and-coming talent, we’re still in a recession and most feel this roster lacks the star power required to encourage fans to drop $44.95 for this pay-per-view.
Here are the athletes rumored/expected to make the trip across the pond:
