Shogun Looks to Melt the Iceman

It has been speculated for quite sometime, and was confirmed earlier this month by Mauricio “Shogun” Rua when he stated that he had signed a contract to take on Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell.  The only thing that Shogun was not able to confirm was where and when the fight was to take place, as well the minor detail of having the Ice Man accept the fight.

Late Saturday evening, Liddell confirmed with MMAWeekly that he has officially signed on to take on the former Pride FC fighter, and the event will be held in London, England on June 7th.

Liddell is coming off of the most important victory of his career as he defeated Shogun’s former training partner Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79 this past December.  The highly anticipated fight lived up to all expectations as both fighters faced three consecutive losses dead in the eyes.

Shogun is widely known as the best Light Heavyweight in the world to never hold a title. After much success in Pride FC, Shogun lost to Forrest Griffin in his UFC debut in one of the biggest upsets in 2007.

This is an enormous fight for both fighters as Shogun looks to get his career back on track, and Liddell looks to regain his title.  A win over Shogun in June would certainly put him in a position for a title shot soon after.
