EliteXC Champion KJ Noons passes on rematch with Nick Diaz

GracieFighter is reporting that EliteXC 160-lbs. champion KJ Noons has declined on an offer to fight Nick Diaz once again for the title. Noons won the fight because of a doctor’s stoppage due to the cuts on Diaz’ face, which Diaz subsequently went under the knife for and had the “sharpness” of his bones reduced so that he could continue his MMA career. EliteXC apparently wanted to offer up a rematch similar to the way that Randy Couture got one against Vitor Belfort, but “KJ and his camp have now responded that they do not want anything to do with a rematch.”

We’re going to try and get in touch with KJ Noons to get his explanation of why he turned down the fight. The story on GracieFighter sounds pretty one-sided and we’ll attempt to get the story from Noons’ side.

The great thing though is that Diaz had plastic surgery to get his sharp bones dialed down so that he can continue to fight without worrying about being cut. In most of Diaz’ fights, he’s been cut under either one or both of his eyes. At this point he probably has a ton of scar tissue which makes it even easier to cut.
