After another night of free MMA action at “UFC on Versus: Jones vs. Matyushenko,” company president Dana White awarded four of the card’s fighters an extra $40,000 each for their special performances inside the San Diego Sports Arena in Southern California.
Japanese star and former Pride champion Takanori Gomi made a triumphant return to the Octagon after being thoroughly dominated by former top contender Kenny Florian in his UFC debut by knocking out the tough-chinned Tyson Griffin in the 1stRound of their scrap.
Although both Brian Stann and Charles Oliveira won their respective fights via submission, it was Oliveira’s quick and crafty armbar that took home “Submission of the Night” honors, while Stann was forced to “settled” for “Fight of the Night” with his cohort Mike Massenzio.
Gomi, Oliveira, Stann and Massenzio all pocketed an additional 40 grand on top of their respective salaries for the work they put in on Sunday night in San Diego.
Fight of the Night:
Brian Stann and Mike Massenzio ($40,000/each)
Submission of the Night:
Charles Oliveira ($40,000)
Knockout of the Night:
Takanori Gomi ($40,000)
