Wanderlei Silva back at Xtreme Couture training for his next fight against Keith Jardine

Wanderlei Silva has thought about going down to Middleweight, and that’s about all there was to it. According to the Xtreme Couture blog, “it [Silva’s next fight] will happen in May and it is someone who has fought Chuck”. That person is going to be Keith Jardine who is already penciled in for the May 24th card in Las Vegas, which already features a BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk main-event for the UFC Lightweight title. As you can tell in the picture, Couture is working closely with Silva on his wrestling technique.

Phil Baroni was also there to train with Wanderlei and here’s what he had to say about the “Axe Murderer”, “once he learns to use the cage and incorporate wrestling into his game he’ll be really tough to beat in the UFC.”

With a win over Jardine, Silva puts himself right back into the UFC Light Heavyweight title picture. A loss would no doubt cause him and quite possibly the UFC to consider a move down to Middleweight to extend his legendary career.

Even if Silva wins though, he’ll most likely have to wait for the winners of the Forrest Griffin/Rampage Jackson and Chuck Liddell/Mauricio Rua fight to take place. It would be interesting to see if Rua ends up as the UFC Light Heavyweight champion, would Wanderlei Silva fight him for the strap?
