UFC Light Heavyweight Jon Jones

Rising light heavyweight star Jon Jones barely broke a sweat in dominating Vladimir Matyushenko on Sunday night. Although Jones easily disposed of Vlady, the veteran had only lost three times this decade coming into the bout.

With another dominant win under his belt, the Jon Jones hype train is continuing to gain steam as many are asking for his next fight to be against a top contender to see how good “Bones” really is.

At only 23 years of age, you’d think that he’d start feeling some pressure with comparisons to fellow superstar Anderson Silva coming like wildfire. Jones is a rare bread though, with a humble personality that is the polar opposite to the damage he inflicts when the Octagon door closes.

“To be honest with you, it does bring a lot of pressure. The biggest thing I try to remember is that I fight for myself, I fight for my family and the biggest thing for me is just to always go out there and remember to have fun,” Jones told ESPN SportsCenter on Monday.

Instead of calling out fighters following his 11th win in 12 bouts, Jones would rather deffer those duties to Octagon brass.

“I respect the pace that I’m getting brought along. The light heavyweight division is a major exception, I mean in my opinion it’s the most full division. We have so many studs,” stated Jones. “No one in our weight class holds the belt for too long and I think Dana White knows what he’s doing.

“Kinda bringing me along a little slowly and making sure that I’m mature enough to have a belt. I feel as if when it’s my time, it’ll be my time and I’ll be more than ready to take it.”

Without sounding arrogant, Jones is showing that he has the confidence to one day become a champion. Just like in his last two fights, Jones’ next contest will also be the toughest test of his career … and so will the one after that, etc.
