The never-ending game of middleweight musical chairs continues, as Demian Maia has just confirmed he will face Mario Miranda at “UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn II” inside TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts
“News…Ready for UFC 118, on aug 28, against Mario Miranda!,” Maia Tweeted just moments ago.
Maia was scheduled to headline “UFC Fight Night 22” opposite Alan Belcher on September 15th, however Belcher was forced to withdraw from the scrap last weekend due to a detached retina.
The critical 185-pound battle between Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares was immediately removed from UFC 118 and promoted to the featured spot on the freebie Spike TV broadcast. So it was only natural that the Maia/Miranda bout slide into the final slot remaining in the Beantown card.
In his last outing, Maia was the co-star to Anderson Silva’s sideshow act at UFC 112 in April. Although Maia was willing to engage the planet’s deadliest striker, the champ spent the better part of the final rounds circling the Octagon and punching the air (as Chael Sonnen loves to say).
Miranda owns an impressive 10-1 record and has ended half of his wins via some form of knockout. He earned an impressive 2ndRound win over veteran David Loiseau at UFC 115 in his last outing.
Here is what UFC 118’s revamped roster now looks like:
John Salter vs. Dan Miller
Amilcar Alves vs. Mike Pierce
Nick Osipczak vs Greg Soto
Andre Winner vs. Nik Lentz
(Spike TV 9PM ET/6PM PT)
Alessio Sakara vs. Gerald Harris
Joe Lauzon vs. Terry Etim
Nate Diaz vs. Marcus Davis
Mario Miranda vs. Demian Maia
Gray Maynard vs. Kenny Florian
James Toney vs. Randy Couture
BJ Penn vs. Frankie Edgar (UFC Lightweight Champion)
