After his annihilation of welterweight top contender Thiago Alves at UFC 100, it was unclear where champ Georges St-Pierre’s next challenge would come from. Thankfully, UFC president Dana White has shed some light on the big mystery.
“Wherever we go, fans know UFC delivers great fights,” White said. “Mike Swick vs. Martin Kampmann could be fight of the night at UFC 103 because the winner takes on Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title.”
Despite his landslide victory over Alves, GSP will be sidelined until at least January 8th with a pulled groin. It is possible that he could return sooner with clearance from an orthopedic doctor, however the champ stated that he would like to take a little bit of time off to recover from the toughest training camp of his career.
“I want to face the best guy,” GSP said after his latest title defense. “Right now, I’m in really bad pain. I’m going to take a step back and take a look at it and we’ll talk about it, and in a couple of weeks we’ll see.”
Well, it didn’t take that long as St-Pierre will certainly be keeping a watchful eye on UFC 103 on September 19th in Dallas, Texas.
