The highly anticipated event took place Saturday night inside Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The pay-per-view broadcast featured a middleweight title bout between champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
Despite being a heavy 4-to-1 underdog to retain his scrap, Sonnen’s nonstop pre-fight chatter had some folks believing he had a legitimate shot at snapping the Brazilian’s 12-fight winning streak.
UFC 117 also showcased two top contender bouts. Thiago Alves rematched Jon Fitch to determine who got next dibs at a 5Round welterweight affair, and Junior dos Santos and Roy Nelson battled for a shot at the heavyweight strap as well.
