UFC Middleweight Anderson Silva

After a spectacular night of mixed martial arts action, UFC president Dana White awarded five fighters an extra $60,000 each for their special performances at UFC 117 on Saturday night.

The organization typically only hands out four contestants the extra dough, however former welterweight champ Matt Hughes floored White with his front-headlock submission of Brazilian jiu jitsu ace Ricardo Almeida and the promoter was forced to hand two fighters “Submission of the Night” honors.

UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva also won the award with his come-from-behind triangle armbar on Chael Sonnen in the night’s main event. The money train didn’t stop there for “The Spider” and the chatty challenger because their epic battle earned them “Fight of the Night” as well.

Speaking of comeback victories, Stefan Struve pocketed 60K for his dramatic 2ndRound TKO of Christian Morecraft in an exciting preliminary bout.

Saturday night’s pay-per-view event took place inside Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.

Fight of the Night:

Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen ($60,000/each)

Submission of the Night:

Anderson Silva ($60,000)

Knockout of the Night:

Stefan Struve ($60,000)
