A heavyweight rematch between former champions Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will headline the event. Mir handed the Brazilian jiu jitsu ace his second career TKO loss at UFC 92 in December 2008 en route to capturing the interim heavyweight title.
Nogueira was put down by fast-rising stud Cain Velasquez in his last outing at UFC 110. The win earned the American Kickboxing Academy trained fighter top contender status to Brock Lesnar’s crown. The pair will collide this winter at UFC 121 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Mir was steamrolled by Shane Carwin at UFC 111 this past March. He owns a 13-5 record overall, with eight wins coming by way of submission.
This is an imperative scrap for both veterans, as an explosive victory could catapult the victor right back into the title hunt.
