Shortly after today’s announcement that “UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez” would be taking place inside the Honda Center on October 23rd, the world’s biggest MMA promotion released the official event poster for the highly anticipated show. If the rumored roster holds true, the lineup will feature one of the deepest cards of 2010.
Heavyweight king Brock Lesnar will defend his strap against fast-rising stud Cain Velasquez in the night’s featured attraction.
Former Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields will not only be making his long awaited Octagon debut in the card’s co-main event, but he will also be returning to the welterweight division when he meets the gritty Martin Kampmann in a critical contest.
Speaking of comebacks, former light heavyweight title holder Tito Ortiz faces Matt Hamill in his first outing since undergoing neck surgery this past May.
Considering the bevvy of talent that’s been rumored for the pay-per-view event, it’s believed Spike TV and the UFC will once again offer their highly popular “UFC Prelims” show. The hour-long broadcast typically features two live preliminary bouts and has proved quite successful in generating last-minute PPV buys.
Here are the fighters rumored/expected to compete in The OC:
Chris Camozzi vs. Dongi Yang
Sam Stout vs. Paul Taylor
Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor
Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen
Todd Duffee vs. Jon Madsen
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Brendan Schaub
Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill
Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago
Martin Kampmann vs. Jake Shields
Cain Velasquez vs. Brock Lesnar (UFC Heavyweight Champion)
