AMP Energy and the WEC asked fans to decide where the organization should host a winter event and 270,000 die-hard MMA fiends voted to bring the blue Octagon to Phoenix, Arizona on December 16th.

During Wednesday night’s broadcast of “WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez” on Versus, it was announced that Jobing.com Arena would host Zuffa, LLC’s first event in the “Valley of the Sun.”

“It’s funny, people have been terrorizing me for a long time to get either a UFC or WEC event to Arizona,” UFC president Dana White said. “It’s finally going to happen now.”

Arizona has been a hotbed for MMA talent of late, with many stars coming from the decorated wrestling program at Arizona State University. Ryan Bader, Aaron Simpson and Cain Velasquez, to name a few, all competed for the ASU Sun Devils.

Nashville and Milwaukee were also in the running to house what many expect to be WEC 54, but once all of the ballots were tallied Phoenix came out on top.

Although it’s still too early to know who will be competing in December’s card, it would be safe to assume Arizona-based fighters will be well represented in the show.
