On January 25th, 5thRound.com exclusively reported that Affliction had been banned from sponsoring UFC fighters because they were in the process of starting up their own MMA organization. What we didn’t know at the time was how Affliction was going to go about doing so, well thanks to MMAWeekly, we now know more details regarding Affliction’s MMA organization.
Earlier today, MMAWeekly reported that Matt “The Law” Lindland has signed a three-fight contract that spans twelve months with a new MMA organization. This squashes the rumor that Lindland would be entering the DREAM’s Middleweight Grand Prix but also sheds some light on Affliction’s new company at the same time.
According to Lindland, “I can tell you, I signed a contract and my first fight I’m going to make more than I made in like six fights in the UFC”. Lindland couldn’t personally confirm who his new employers were, but MMAWeekly found out that it was Affliction and that they are teaming up with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
The only thing that is known at this time is that Affliction/Golden Boy Promotions will be holding their first event sometime in June. We’ll have more on this breaking story as we hear it.
