There had been a lot of talk over the past few weeks regarding these two fights, but the UFC officially announced both fights for UFC 84: Ill Will. Wanderlei Silva will keep himself in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight division to face Keith Jardine and Tito Ortiz’ last fight in the UFC will be against Lyoto Machida. If you didn’t know, Ortiz didn’t originally want the Machida fight because he felt that he should’ve gotten a bigger name but it seems that Ortiz has changed his tune.
Wanderlei Silva on the other hand was contemplating a move down to the UFC’s Middleweight division, but has decided to stay as a Light Heavyweight, for now at least.
Jardine and Machida on the other hand are both coming off of possibly the biggest wins of their respective careers. Jardine thoroughly out-pointed Chuck Liddell at UFC 76: Knockout while Machida submitted UFC newcomer Thierry Sokoudjou at UFC 79: Nemesis.
On top of these two Light Heavyweight battles, the UFC Lightweight title will be on the line as well when UFC Lightweight champion BJ Penn defends his title against Sean Sherk who had been stripped by the UFC of that very title because of his issues with the California State Athletic Commission.
