Frankie Edgar vs BJ Penn

After UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar made his first successful title defense on Saturday night against former king BJ Penn, “The Answer” left no question as to who the world’s top 155-pounder is.

FightMetric.com broke down their highly anticipated rematch and has allowed us to take a look inside the numbers of last night’s main event inside TD Garden in Boston.

Although the judges’ scorecards told the complete story, to the tune of a 50-45 unanimous decision across the board, it’s interesting to see just how dominant the kid from Toms River, New Jersey actually was.

In every single “Striking” category, the champ absolutely outclassed “The Prodigy” whether it was to the head, body or legs.

Edgar also secured three takedowns compared to the pair that Penn posted, and it could be argued that Edgar’s takedowns were far more significant as the champ quickly squirmed away each time Penn had top position. The undersized upset specialist also unleashed a powerful Matt Hughes-esque slam for good measure.

Props to our guys over at FightMetric for their detailed analysis and number crunching:
