Update on DREAM.1 Lightweight Grandprix 2008 1st Round

With the first DREAM event taking place on March 15th, there has been a lot of buzz and hype regarding the event and the promotion itself. DREAM.1 will feature the opening round of the Lightweight Grandprix, which will display some of the world’s best 155-lbs. fighters. Four fights have been officially announced via the DREAM official website, with many more to be announced in the near future.

The four fights that have been announced all have to do with the Lightweight Grandprix. The bouts are as follows:

Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Kultar Gill
Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Luis Buscape
Joachim Hansen vs. Boku Koutetsu
Shinya Aoki vs. “JZ” Calvancante

The most interesting fight of the opening round has to be the Aoki/Calvancante fight. Both are top-level Lightweights that were suppose to go at it at the Yarennoka! event that took place on New Year’s Eve, but an injury to Calvancante forced him to pull out.

Instead Calvancante watched Aoki win a hard fought bout from the front row. Many would consider this match-up great for the finals of the tournament, but we get to see it in the opening round.

We’re going to have more on the first ever DREAM’s event as we gather more information.
