For those who believed former UFC lightweight king BJ Penn would sail off into the Hawaiian sunset after suffering back-to-back unanimous decision losses to reigning champ Frankie Edgar, “The Prodigy” is already back in the lab preparing for his next shot at redemption.

“Over here in Hilo, I’ve just been hanging out the last couple of days,” Penn stated in a video blog released late Tuesday night. “I’m gonna stick to what I said about being as active as I can.

“I’m gonna contact the UFC and get a fight as soon as possible. Luckily, I didn’t get injured, so I got no injuries.”

After losing his last 50 Octagon minutes, as well as his aura of invincibility and championship strap, the 31-year-old believes he can once again get the BJ Penn Express steered in the winning direction.

“I still can build off what I built in the last camp. I didn’t go out, I didn’t party or anything,” Penn shared. “That’s it. I’m gonna jump in the gym [today] and go full blast.”

Since his disappointing loss at UFC 118 this past Saturday, questions regarding whether the quality of coaches and teammates Penn has surrounded himself with is enough to compete against the next generation of fighters. While decisions as significant as those aren’t made overnight, the former champ knows the time for wallowing was over.

“A lot of people have been asking me about the camp, so we are still figuring that whole thing out. So, while we’re figuring the whole thing out, I’m gonna jump in the gym already. Starting [today], back on track.”
