UFC Middleweight Vitor Belfort

While Octagon brass are busy arranging an immediate Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch, Vitor Belfort has confirmed he will be meeting fellow middleweight top contender Yushin Okami at UFC 122 in Germany.

“Now it’s game time we have a fight nov 13 against okami,” Belfort Tweeted just moments ago.

The Brazilian’s Wednesday morning post wasn’t earth shattering news considering Dave Meltzer had previously reported the scrap over the weekend. However, today’s announcement goes a long way in determining who gets next dibs at the 185-pound crown.

Belfort was headed on a collision course for Silva’s strap, however a February shoulder surgery allowed Sonnen to leapfrog into a 5Round affair. The chatty challenger made the most of his opportunity and nearly stole the crown from the division’s longtime king.

Courtesy of his spectacular showing in a last-second submission loss, Sonnen will be granted an instant mulligan.

Okami is fresh off a split decision win over Mark Munoz earlier this month. The talented Japanese star has won five of his last six scraps. His only loss during the stretch came to the aforementioned Sonnen.

Belfort, on the other hand, has never fought at middleweight under the UFC banner. Although he’s riding a five-fight win streak, his only Octagon appearance during that run came a year ago in a 1stRound knockout of Rich Franklin in a 195-pound catchweight bout.

It’s believed the event will be jumping off inside Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany. Spike TV is expected to air the November 13th show free via same-day tape-delay.

Here are the contestants rumored for the freebie broadcast:

Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz
Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Goran Reljic
Amir Sadollah vs. Peter Sobotta
Yushin Okami vs. Vitor Belfort
