The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission has just released the official paydays for all of the contestants that participated in “UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2″ on August 28th in Boston.
The night’s biggest baller was perhaps the card’s largest loser, as James Toney pocketed a cool $500,000 for his 3:19 of mixed martial arts action. Although Octagon Hall of Famer Randy Couture easily disposed of the boxing legend, “The Natural” left Beantown with only half the chips that Toney took home.
UFC 118 was headlined by a rematch between lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and former king BJ Penn. Edgar once again used his superior speed and quickness to take another unanimous decision over the man most consider to be the best to ever grace the division.
The Jersey boy earned a $96,000 paycheck, while Penn left with $150,000 in defeat.
Please keep in mind, the numbers that get reported to the athletic commissions are only of what’s required. These figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, they do not contain money paid by sponsors or any bonuses from the UFC. These royalties can include pay-per-view commissions, Fight Night bonuses, secret somethin’ somethin’ handshakes, etc., which can oftentimes represent a substantial portion of a fighter’s total income.
