UFC 121 will get a slight promotional boost, as headlines Brock Lesnar and No. 1 contender Cain Velasquez will be featured in the next installment of “UFC Primetime.” Fans will get an inside look at both fighters’ preparations for their October 23rd showdown.
“UFC Primetime: Lesnar vs. Velasquez” will premiere on Spike TV on October 6th, with the final two episodes taking place on successive Wednesdays, October 13th and 20th.
Lesnar is coming off a come-from-behind victory over Shane Carwin at UFC 116. The former pro wrestler was on his heels after being hurt badly by the heavy handed Carwin in the opening round, but managed to rally and unify the heavyweight title.
Velasquez is looking to capitalize on the most impressive win of his young career after stopping MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his tracks at UFC 110 in Australia.
The event marks the Octagon’s long awaited return to the Southern California area, as Anaheim’s Honda Center will host the epic event. The blockbuster card will also features a light heavyweight showdown between Tito Ortiz and Matt Hamill.
Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields will make his UFC debut when he takes on rising welterweight Martin Kampmann in the night’s co-main event.
UFC 121 will also get some special treatment as Spike TV will air “UFC 121 Prelims” starting at 6PM, which will lead straight into the pay-per-view.
