Bellator Fighting Championships

Opening night of the 2010 NFL season wasn’t the only action in town on Thursday night as Bellator Fighting Championships was in town. UFC veteran Rich Clementi headlined against former All-American wrestler Carey Vanier for a guaranteed spot in the Bellator lightweight tournament.

Both Clementi and Vanier were fighting to keep their Bellator title hopes alive with reigning champion Eddie Alvarez preparing for a showdown with former Sports Illustrated coverboy and resident badass Roger Huerta.

In all there were eight bouts that went down inside the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans, just minutes away from the Super Dome where the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints hosted Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.

Matt Horwich was also in action as the former IFL champion and Octagon veteran took on Eric Schambari in a middleweight bout.
