"Shogun" Rua a no-go against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85

UFC.com is reporting that the headline fight for UFC 85 in London has now been scrapped because Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has re-injured his left knee. Rua has a torn ACL in his left knee, the same injury he suffered prior to the Forrest Griffin fight at UFC 76. He was scheduled to return against former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. Many were curious as to why the UFC didn’t announce the Rua vs. Liddell fight during the UFC 82 Pay-Per-View this past weekend, and it seems as if the UFC was holding out hope that Rua’s knee injury wasn’t serious and that he would be able to go.

Rua is one of the most talented fighters in the world, regardless of weight class but unfortunately he hasn’t been able to get past the injury bug. Injuries have cost him 2 out of his 3 losses on his 16-3-0 MMA record.

According to Thomas Gerbasi of UFC.com, “Liddell’s opponent for UFC 85, which will be held at London’s O2 Arena on June 7th, will be announced shortly.”
