According to reports, WEC lightweight champ Ben Henderson will make his next title defense against the electrifying Anthony Pettis at WEC 53 inside the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
MMAWeekly.com confirmed the highly anticipated scrap with sources close to the situation.
Henderson owns a dominant 12-1 professional record and has skyrocketed up the ranks over the last couple of years. His relentless style and humble attitude have not only made him a fan favorite, but the WEC’s reigning 155-pound king as well. Henderson defeated the talented Donald Cerrone for the second time at WEC 48 this past April.
Pettis is perhaps one of the sport’s most exciting athletes. His unpredictable game has thrilled fans across the globe, however it isn’t all flash when it comes to the youngster. He too holds an impressive 12-1 mark, however has never entered a 5Round title affair.
This will be Benson’s fourth straight championship contest.
“Showtime” earned his shot at the crown by submitting veteran Shane Roller in his last outing at WEC 50.
The lightweight battle will headline the December 16th fight card, which will air on the Versus Network.
Thus far, only two bouts have been rumored for the yet-to-be announced event:
