Don’t believe everything that you hear, or read for that matter. 5thRound.com has confirmed that the March 26th rematch between current WEC Middleweight Champ Paulo Filho and Chael Sonnen will indeed be on. The two were, then weren’t, then are again scheduled to face off for the title at WEC 33 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The rumor mill was churning just a couple of days ago when the Brazilian website Tatame.com reported that Filho was prepared to pull out of the rematch due to a case of depression. It was noted that he didn’t have the motivation to train and prepare for the fight, and was hoping to reschedule the bout with Sonnen in June.
Filho’s Manager, Ed Soares told MMAWeekly.com that, “Everyone goes through some bad times and Paulo was going through some personal problems,” he added, “but he is altogether now and everyone on his team is pulling together for him to make sure he is prepared to fight Sonnen on March 26.”
Soares reiterated that Filho has been working out daily with Ricardo Arona and will be more than ready come the 26th. Fellow Brazilian fighter and Current UFC middleweight Champ Anderson Silva will be joining Filho for the final days of his training camp as well.
All signs from Filho’s camp show that everything is a go, but then again, what else are they supposed to say. It will be interesting to see how prepared Filho will actually be for this fight, given the recent turn of events.
